New Threads Chinese Cultural Society is a non-profit organization, formally incorporated in New York State in February, 1997. However, as an informal group, New Threads Society has been active since February, 1994.

The purpose of New Threads Society is to promote Chinese culture to the general public. The means of such promotion includes, but is not limited to, publishing newsletters or literary magazines on the Internet and establishing and maintaining an electronic library of Chinese classics.

Currently, New Threads Society publishes an electronic magazine, New Threads magazine, maintains a Chinese electronic library, New Threads Electronic Library, a BBS forum and a mailing list, XYS-Friends.

New Threads magazine is a Chinese magazine for literature, arts, philosophy, history and popular science. It is for original writings, not for digests.

New Threads magazine is a monthly magazine, published on the 15th of every month. It also publishes special issues occasionally.

New Threads magazine was first published in February, 1994, and was distributed on the Internet. Currently it has tens of thousands of readers. To subscribe to XYS, send a blank message to xys_gb-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

New Threads Electronic Library, founded in July, 1995, is a public archive site dedicated to storing electronic versions (GB code) of Chinese literatures. It mainly stores New Threads magazine and Chinese classics, and also stores other literatures. It has been repeatedly described by our readers as the most complete public archive site of Chinese classics available on the Web.

Xys-friends is a mailing list for New Threads editors, contributors and devoted readers, and a forum for friendly discussions of Chinese literature, as well as arts, philosophy and history.
